Before this we had the moribund Skybolt ALBM, which resulted in RAF Vulcans being built with fittings for pylons for missiles that were never available.
After it, we had the more sensible idea of a 747 loaded with CRSL rotary missile "clips", on tracks, with about 20 launchers per plane with six ALCMs per launcher. If you're a belligerent small-to-medium-sized "enlightened state", 240 ALCMs coming in at once can ruin your whole day.
