Let them eat Chevy Volts

Meanwhile Mr Barack Hussein Obama, as I predicted, has started blaming the American people for not being worthy of him.  Are you an ordinary American who is suffering from high petrol prices?  According to Mr Soetoro, that's because it's all your fault and you should buy a new car.

Is this Mr Dunham's "malaise" moment when even his party starts looking for an alternative?   Please, God, let it be so.

Fortunately, I know that we can save much more oil than we're using simply by keeping our tires inflated. Barack (not Hussein) Obama told us so. Yes, we'll go out to work one morning and there will be a tin-horn Middle Eastern despot collecting the surplus seeping out of our gas tanks. "Good morning, infidel! Don't mind me, I'm just collecting something to put in the supertanker for the way home."

We'll know Obama's had his malaise moment when they start letting Joe Biden out of his cage to distract us. Don't mind what the scary faculty lounge liberal is saying, folks! Lookkit the funny monkey! Lookkit the monkey!

The One's repeated sneers about "unenlightened" people driving 8 MPG "clunkers" shows His basic ignorance of reality.

Here's one for Days of Future Past; In the June 1961 Popular Science (which I have sitting right here), on pp.79-81 is the article "Economy-Run Winners Tell you How To Save Gas." In it, PS ran a competition to determine the best gas mileage attainable in everyday driving by simple things lie driving sensibly, keeping the tires properly inflated, etc.

They tested 21 cars from the Big Three, ranging from the Ford Falcon four-cylinder manual to the Cadillac Eldorado and Lincoln Continental big-block V-8 automatics. The results are interesting;

Best mileage; Ford Falcon 4-cyl. manual, 32.68 MPG.

Worst; Lincoln Continental V-8 auto, 17.24 MPG.

Fleet average; 25.4 MPG.

And this was in 1961, when the only things people worried about re MPG was would it cost $1 or $2 to top off the tank at 25 cents/gallon, or if they were on a long road trip where the gas stations were.

The fact that The One is yammering about 8 MPG clunkers when the only vehicles with that sort of consumption are exotic toys for the elite like Lamborghinis, or armor-plated behemoths like the ones in His motorcade, show just how out of touch with reality He is.

As my best friend, an ex-Army E-5, said the other day, with public pronouncements like these, if The One were anything but POTUS, He'd already be under court-ordered evaluation for mental health "issues".

But don't expect His party to look for a replacement. They are still sure He is the Messiah He believes Himself to be. And He always says exactly what the rest of them believe. Which is exactly the problem with "progressives" in general. They not only aren't conversant with reality, they reject it outright.

The ironic thing is, about the only car in the US getting about 8 miles a gallon is the one HE rides in. Even that's just because it's really a cleverly disguised tank. :)

Chris Lopes, true, perhaps, but it is the President's car. The current president is an ass, it is true, but... well, I've heard that in such cases military types say that you salute the uniform and not the man. President gets to ride in a tank, with escort, no problem with me.

By the way. It would have been interesting to be there. I noticed when watching this that there was the burst of applause from the audience at the start, and then nothing. Not even the voices of the people asking the questions. Either the acoustics in the room were extremely strange, or the guy with the parabolic mic didn't have anything to point it at after he recorded the three guys clapping. What was going on? Reverent silence? Stunned silence? Catcalls? That "I've got ten children!" comment didn't sound very respectful. And I assume that anyone who wanted to sit through one of Dear Leader's multi-hour lectures would self-select from among the sympathetic. Interesting...
