One of the things that I've always argued is a core duty of government is currency, but it looks like the digital age is throwing even that into question.  Here, in the ultimate in privatisation, we see a form of virtual money that is controlled by everyone and no one.

I can see some real problems with this particular version, but the basic idea has some fascinating implications.
