What's a Malthusian to do?

The "Green" movement is intellectually bankrupt and pushes hopelessly flawed policies?  Who says this?  Mr George Monbiot of the Guardian, who has the integrity to admit when reality hits him in the face with a shovel.
Monbiot gets it, and furthermore concedes one of the main arguments of the anti-green case. The ‘problem’ is not a shortage of carbon rich non-renewable futures. The problem is the abundance of these fuels. We are not running out of hydrocarbons; shale natural gas, tar sands and coal offer enormous reserves that can cover our needs for the foreseeable future. We have an abundance of fossil fuel. Moreover, it seems likely that for a very long time to come, fossil fuels will be substantially cheaper and more abundant that expensive renewables. (One should also note that these new fuel sources are found in places like Canada and the United States rather than Saudi Arabia and Iran.)

More, Monbiot also acknowledges the contradictory and inconsistent nature of the green solutions. He acknowledges that there is no prospect for democratic politics to impose the draconian limits on consumption and economic activity that green dogma requires. Every ‘solution’ the greens have come up with has a fatal flaw of some kind; none of it works, none of it makes any sense.
In other news, the Sun wanders out of its path across the heavens, left-wingers denounce the welfare state, and ice fishing season opens in Hell.

What I got out of Monbiot's remarks was that he thinks the Greens just haven't tried hard enough.

The idea that Greens are as suspicious of government as they are of business is laughable- and a bald-faced lie. Name one Green group that doesn't want to use the power of the state to enforce their will on the rest of us.

Monbiot is calling for Greens to "get realistic"- in the sense of using government power (once they have seized same) to force us all to live without all the things Greens abhor- namely, any product of actual civilization. The message is, "If you don't want to go back to the caves to Save Holy Mother Gaia- we will just push you in. And blow up the entrance to keep you there."

Calling Africans who cut down trees for firewood to cook food when fuel is taken away "psychotic" tells you all you need to know about Monbiot and his ilk. They have a visceral hatred of people, and when people do whatever they have to to survive, Monbiot & Co. want them done away with. They truly deserve the appellation "Eco-Nazis".

And Monbiot, the original moonbat, truly deserves that term, as well.

Eon is right. Green is the new Red.

Here is what Mother Gaia has to say to humankind.

Yes, we have screwed up our own issues, we will drown in our poop and there is no God to save our butts once the total SNAFU has set in. And the humankind sure won't be missed.

I just hope it won't happen during my lifetime.

The main point of Christianity was this: that Nature is not our mother: Nature is our sister. We can be proud of her beauty, since we have the same father; but she has no authority over us; we have to admire, but not to imitate. This gives to the typically Christian pleasure in this earth a strange touch of lightness that is almost frivolity. Nature was a solemn mother to the worshippers of Isis and Cybele. Nature was a solemn mother to Wordsworth or to Emerson. But Nature is not solemn to Francis of Assisi or to George Herbert. To St. Francis, Nature is a sister, and even a younger sister: a little, dancing sister, to be laughed at as well as loved.

Well said, David. "Worship the Creator, not the creature." Enjoy the splendor of the world God has given us. However, if we regress to the squalor the greenies desire for us, with them ruling over us, we will be fearing the terror of nature's untamed wiles, which primitive people have suffered for thousands of years in most cultures, because they could not protect themselves from nature's fury.

Why is it that there seems to be such a depressing, despondent air about the greenies/statists? All gloom and doom. Not the bright, hopeful cheer and positive, workable ideas of people who want a better world for themselves and those around them, and who work to make such a world.

Wesley;

If you want to know where the Greens got their philosophy and mentality, go back to the "UFO contactee" movement of the 1950s.

The "contactees" were (according to them) in constant communication with beautiful space people from Venus, etc., all of whom were here to "save us from ourselves". Specifically, they were here to save us from nuclear war and the evils of technological civilization, by teaching us to "live in harmony with the Universe"- in an agrarian-socialist culture, operating on feudal lines, at a roughly pre-Bronze Age tech level.

Adamski, Betherum, Angelucci, Williamson; name any of the "contactee gurus" and the message was always the same. Back To The Caves Before The Terrible Atom Kills Us All.

The Atomic Age was a tremendous shock to this lot. For the first time, war could kill them even if they went to lengths to avoid serving in uniform. Most of them simply went into a psychosis remarkably like Type 2A paranoid schizophrenia. (Martin S. Kottmayer goes into detail on this.)

In the Sixties, the disciples of the contactees moved on to "progressive" politics- carrying all their emotional and delusional baggage with them. Combined with the drug-induced delusions of the Tim Leary crowd, and the socialist aspirations of the Ted Kennedy school, it sent American and European "liberalism" up an intellectual cul-de-sac where it remains today.

For a good example, Google Donald M. Ware- a contactee believer who went on to become a major political "strategist" for liberal think-tanks. And he's just one case. And by no means the most extreme.

I'm afraid that anyone expecting sanity to break out in this clique' is due to be badly disappointed, for at least the next several decades.

I don't expect it to happen- ever.

eon: your UFO contactees sound like very crazy people. "Beautiful space people"? We all know that people from Venus resemble giant turnips with lobster claws and angry eyebrows, and a ham radio hobby!

Sergej, So true - At least, the Metalunan mutants surely do look that way (although in "This Island Earth", in spite of their huge brain-exposed heads, they seem to have the intelligence level ordinarily assigned to the proletariat by the "intelligentsia" )...

Eon, it seems "the more things change, the more they remain the same." This is understandable when you consider that statism is an intellectual dead-end (cul-de-sac - Very appropriate), with a small cadre of "Big Brains" (pardon me while I choke) making decisions for as many millions of people as will accept their oh-so-benevolent, loving, thoughtful, better-than-you-can-do-it reign. Again to quote: "Hangin's too good for 'em, throw the bums out!"

You're right; the greens/statists are stuck in an intellectual cul-de-sac from which there is no escape. How can they possibly escape, when they cling to their precious, failed ideology more tightly than a child to his favorite toy? Unlike children and their toys, though, the greenie/statist toy destroys all who play with it and they never tire of it. History doesn't apply to them - They're smarter than all those other statists who tried it before, and they'll make their utopia a real place.

God save us!
