Always loved this movie, and it's odd because the basic premise that a major tech leap would stunt industry and put people out of work is absolutely counter to fact.
Probably because it's so well crafted and has so many good performances.
Hard to go wrong with Alec Guiness.
Despite the bogus political and union preaching, and considering this could easily have been a dull as dirt festival of exposition, the story stays active and funny all the way to the ending credits.

Wah waah waaaaa.
USA: Not yours.
I liked that movie.
The industrial uses of an endless molecule
overshadow its use for clothing.
Space Elevator?
But then... what the 1950s could never have
envisaged... disposal of macromolecules!
