When open minds become empty heads

Getting in the way.
Apparently being an Atheist who rejects all tenets of the Christian faith and even denying the existence of Christ (which also shows a staggering historical ignorance) is no obstacle to becoming a clergyman in the Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN).

As  Dr Spacely-Trellis, the “go-ahead” Bishop of Bevindon in the Stretchford Conurbation and author of God The Humanist might observe,
Cleansed of such outmoded relics, a truly progressive Protestant Church in the Netherlands will arise, a Church in which people of all races, of all kinds of sexual orientation, or previous criminal convictions, and of all faiths or none, whether Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, atheist or whatever, will be welcome to act as clergy. It will be a Church of diversity and inclusion, a Church which will meet the religious needs of the average man and woman of our secular age in a very real sense.

"Meeting the religious needs of the average man or woman"- by denying that anything like the divine exists. And oh yes, changing history to suit the "narrative".

I can only assume that the potential pastor believes that the Church he intends to create will itself be the object of veneration. With those running it, like himself, as the actual godhead.

Shoko Asahara and Jim Jones would be so proud of him. St. Augustin, not so much.

Dude leads a church, why? From the article, he kinda sounds like the atheists who say, "Of course I'm all for leading a good life, but I don't need religion (or organized religion) to do it. It is only good manners, after all, not to murder, not to steal, and to sacrifice 1000 hearts to Quetzalcoatl every full moon to keep the Sun going." (Point being, the most vocal of the atheists are still stridently not-believing in some specific god. Though I suspect that a non-believer in the Aztec state religion would find himself on top of a pyramid in short order.)

Sergej;

Yes, and that was why Montezuma was stoned to death by his own peasantry when Cortez released him. They'd gotten a bit tired of his habit of sacrificing large numbers of "unbelieving" peons to get his gods' attention.

Cortez, by comparison, actually had considerable support among the Aztecs' "lower classes". I suspect on the grounds that compared to their own "divine leaders", anybody looked good.

Pity I wasn't born a Jew and that Judaism does not approve converts. It makes so much more sense than Xtianity.

Then again, we had a percfectly good Pagan religion before Xtianity was imposed on us.
