And to think, we believed the way to temperance was one amendment to the Constitution. And look how easy (a decade and a half later) it was to do away with it with just another little old amendment.
This approach would bring a smile to old Carrie Nation herself; imposing level upon level of idiotic laws and regulations that would take "an act of Congress" to unravel (and yes, I realize it's the UK we are talking about).
Over here, if we are patting each other on the back in a week or so for shooting down in flames the socialized medicine plan, expect to see it start working in a bit here and a bit there, and pretty soon we are boiled frogs.
All of that is obvious to the readers here, but how do we stop it? It's already starting, the republicans are saying "we know we need some sort of health reform".
I'm guessing though that backing government interference out of the system isn't one of the options being considered.
