Wally Schirra 1923 - 2007


Wally Schirra, one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts and commander of the Apollo 7 mission has died at the age of 84.

It's too bad all the books about space exploration written before the 1960s are lost.

I remember one distinctly.

"The first astronaut is 17 years old now..."

The authors couldn't know the first American astronauts used to be a Korean War jet pilots.
