Buildings from Hell

The Telegraph looks at the ugliest buildings in the world.  This one, Liverpool Cathedral, was so bad that at the time of its construction it was denounced as the work of the Anti-Christ.

The whole lot look like refugees from a Gerry Anderson puppet show. The Liverpool Cathedral has always reminded me of WASP HQ in "Stingray".

I'd also add the Museum Of Modern Art (MOMA) in NYC to the list. I'm a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright's work, such as Fallingwater or his Prairie School houses, but when I look at MOMA, all I see is a giant loo. And inside, everything sort of spirals down to the exit, right where the plughole should be.

I've often wondered if this wasn't FLW making a subtle comment re his opinion of modern art.

What, no mention of the Walker Art Center (AKA Angry Robot Building) in Minneapolis? This one not only has the Angry Robot Face-shaped facade, but is positioned to glare its disapproval onto the often backed up traffic on I-94, which I think should win it extra derision points. "Grr, Minneapolis! I disapprove of your rush-hour traffic! I discard the tired, conventional architectural language in favor of one I just made up last week! It consists mostly of grunts, slapping myself on the chest, and flinging my own filth while screeching loudly! Grr!"

Sergej;

Thanks. Until now, I wasn't aware that Minneapolis had a giant Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em Robot close to downtown.

Instead of the cherry on the piece of banana peel out front, I'd add a giant spring-propelled fist. Every day at 11:59 hrs local, some lucky person chosen by lottery would be able to point and click on the Net, and release said fist to pop said robot one on the chin.

Of course, you'd need a really big spring under the big robot head to get the full effect, too.

SPROINNNGGG!
