Sleep tight, America

A quote from Mr Barack Hussein Obama's new head of Medicare and Medicaid:
Cynics beware, I am romantic about the National Health Service; I love it. … The NHS is one of the astounding human endeavours of modern times.
Having lived under the NHS, I would advise everyone not to panic. Just keep calm, take a deep breath... RUN!

OK, I'll bite; What's your beef with the UK National Health Service?

If it's anything like the Soviet health service I've heard about, it's not all that bad. As long as one makes sure never to get sick...

As a resident of these fair isles, I can report that the usual complaints are to do with very long waiting periods, poor conditions in hospitals, and NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence; they determine the cost-effectiveness of providing certain medical treatments and medication).

However, as a student who would be unable to afford private medical insurance, having medical care provided at a reduced cost (you still pay for it, just through taxes; paying a lot less than you would through private healthcare) is invaluable. I'd prefer something slow and inefficient over nothing.
