The US military is developing a robot stretcher bearer with a "Teddy bear face designed to be reassuring."
That is "reassuring" as in "guaranteed to induce a fit of the screaming meemies."

After getting plugged with a 7.62mm round or crawling out of the wreckage of a APC, I doubt that many servicemen would want to be embraced by a six-foot Teddy Ruxpin.
Why not just give an M-16 to the bear and leave the soldiers back at base? I should think any jihadi would be pretty demoralized to discover he's fighting FREAKING ROBOT BEARS!
There are actually reports on soldiers and crew having feelings for the robots used in the field; this article (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/05/AR2007050501009_pf.html) is a good read.
However, making a robot look like a bear will achieve the opposite effect. What do you think is easier to like: simple robot, or CREEPY BEAR THING?
