I always found that Poul Anderson's writing has exactly the word that is required, just in the place it needs to be, and in general, that it flows. I was a bit surprised to hear the man himself speaking so... tentatively? As if he did not always have the words he wanted close to hand. Maybe it was this compulsion to have precisely the right words that made him pause to think so often when speaking in real time.
