Brave New World

When the American election results came in my wife told our six-year that "it's a brave new world".

Let's take a closer look.

Should I laugh at the irony or cry at the super fast concluding ? President Obama hasn't made a single decision yet and I know it is never good to be too optimistic, but can you at least wait until he himself gives us a hint of what will the 4 years of his rule look like ?
It's not like this writing after the election can change anything.

"Brave new world," huh? I would think that after Huxley that phrase would become like "peace in our time"---not to be uttered except ironically.

Ivan, what's done is done. Sen. Obama's history has much in it to make one worry, but as you say, the election is over. I can only hope (to dip into Shakespeare once more) that he'll pull a Prince Hal once he assumes power.

Just out of curiosity... who were the rest of people here supporting?

I, being a british citizen, wasn't too bothered. But I'm sure you guys, being American citizens, must have voted for one? (Or a third party candidate, let's not forget them)

I'm not too interested in politics myself. It all seems to be too much of an excuse for people to let out their personal prejudices (including me, and you! No-one is innocent). But I'd like to know who you supported.

Me? Obama. Because I'm young and impressionable.

I neither had the required age nor the knowledge about what the candidates were offering to vote really responsibly, if I had lived in America.
When I vote the first time, I'll vote for the Croatian president. Politics here haven't changed much since WW2.
Good old-fashioned left vs. right debate, and by right wing I don't mean free market, but nationalism bordering with fascism. The youth enjoys that kind of stuff.

I'm going to try to maintain my optimism for the upcoming presidency and not fall into the instant naysaying of anything the new president proposes.
I didn't really have a horse in this race, I was never a McCain fan believing him to be far too entrenched in the glory of government for my liking.
I started out as a Thompson supporter but his suit proved to be the emptiest of all. When Mike Huckabee came along and promoted the FairTax I got on board with that.
I'm a firm believer in smaller government, a lighter tax burden, and a strict adherence to the Constitution and the rule of law, if candidates come along with those things in mind, then I'll be right there with them.
Above all, I'm interested in the free exchange of ideas between people of all ideologies and believe nothing can be harmed by discussion.
