Mr Blair is also back in the running as a potential president of Europe, where the economic and military upheavals of recent months have underlined the need for a politician of his stature to lead the union.
The post of a permanent president of the EU’s Council of Ministers was enshrined in the Lisbon treaty, which Irish voters rejected last June. If the Irish change their minds in a new vote next autumn and the Czech Republic also endorses the treaty, the new role could be created next year.

Here on this island that is the UK I am voiceless and powerless. Oh yes, I can write comments in the Mail and vote on the Downing Street petitions website but that makes me feel more powerless; 'they' laugh at us as they know 'venting' our anger in this way is a futile gesture; 'gesture' politics. 'They' are untouched by it. Having said that I dread to think of how 'voiceless' I will be as part of the EUpan political arena and get crazy at the thought of the powerlessness we will all feel, when 'we' are 'globalised'. God save us all from these 'mad men and women'.
