A fox is small, but so is a wolverine or a badger. The raccoon which invaded my attic last fall wasn't big, either, but I wasn't about to try to grab him by the scruff of the neck.
The remark about a water pistol surprised me. I thought they'd outlawed them in the UK, as well.
I'd suggest that the est cure for the little beast was a swift kick from a pair of work boots. But the animal-rights people would probably not appreciate the idea.
