Some are more equal than others

The general public protest against turning Britain into an Orwellian state with surveillance cameras on every corner and the government doesn't even bother to shrug.

Muslim pressure groups object to cameras funded to expressly counter Jihadists and Birmingham Council fall all over themselves because they can't shove plastic bags over the lenses fast enough.

We are in deep trouble on both fronts.

Thinking about all the CCTV brouhaha in the UK, I wonder: Was anyone looking at what they were recording? Were these cameras ever actually hooked up to anything? Were there even cameras there in the first place, or just empty cases? Are they high enough resolution to actually make anything out, or are they the same monochrome, no-res, one frame per second units that the mini-marts in the US favor?

Considering that once the news that the whole camera surveillance system is a farce gets out, whether it actually is or not, the populous won't be intimidated by them. And I bet the groups that were supposted to targeted by the system will be ahead of the news curve on this one.
