Let's Do The Timewarp Again

The Guardian still delivers, as this headline demonstrates:
RAF concerned about weakness on Hercules since second world war
This shows remarkable foresight, given that the Hercules wasn't even thought of until 1951.

I've always worshiped the aircraft designed before 1955, as if the designers back then possessed some mysterious "wisdom" that faded away later. Despite that their performance would be modest by today's standards, older planes always seemed to be more smartly built, offering more for a smaller price, and being beautiful for the eye (although this is irrelevant).
