I like the fuel economy, but the top speed is lacking, and I suspect that the acceleration will be low and the price high.
In other words: "not yet".
Well, the article mentioned safety and price as questions coming in, and unknown at the time of publication. Safety was addressed (author is concerned, but hey, why don't you try the death-bucket first and tell him how it goes?). Price was not.
As for acceleration, that wasn't even on table, except as what's the point, since the top speed's only as fast as a ten-speed?
The hysteria over fuel prices continues.
Gas is ten times what it was in 1968, so are the cars, so are houses, salaries, cigarettes, and just about everything else.
Except in 1968 I could get a Buick Electra convertible for my $5000 with power everything. 12mpg and I don't remember anyone grousing about the price of gas.
What we didn't have was everyone eating out every day, cable tv with 1000 channels at $200 a month, cell phone packages, and a variety of other instant gratification nonsense that we spend our money on today.
I'm not complaining nor indicting, I'm just saying things need to be observed in perspective. Why isn't there outrage over the price of cars for instance?
Here in the US we were spoiled for a long time because oil was so cheap, even during the high inflation of the 70s, oil being a world commodity, stayed low.
