Peace, Promise or Pose?

The IRA terrorist: a thing of the past?

The British and Irish governments claim that the Irish Republican Army is "no longer planning violence or illegal activity of any kind" and therefore there is no obstacle to reviving the power-sharing assembly in Northern Ireland.

This is quite a remarkable statement-- and not merely because of the IRA's recent and notorious history of refusal to disarm publicly, bank robbery, extortion, kneecapping, drug dealing, supporting foreign terrorists, spying and evisceration. The elephant in the room is that if the IRA really has disarmed, renounced all violence and ceased all illegal activity, then it has no reason to exist at all and so why doesn't it prove that its thuggish campaign is over and disband?

Perhaps this claim on the part of Dublin and London is true, perhaps it is wishful thinking or perhaps it is a cynical papering-over in hopes of getting the Stormont assembly jump-started again.

That remains to be seen.

I think the “remarkable statement” here is the insanity you’ve posted what where you smoking when you did that? Where you watching Fox news? Listening to a speech form thatcher herself on the evils of Ireland and its people?

I see your up on the high horse declaring the IRA an evil terrorist organization that of course deals drugs and does all those other evil things you think it does? You don’t seem to make any mention of the murder squads setup, sanctioned, trained and equipped by HM’s very own crown forces do you? What about all the drug dealing loyalist scum allowed to walk free through the streets actually doing the cowardly terrorizing of innocent unarmed people? Oh I forgot the british army was there to protect the Nationalist/Republican community and keep the peace? No it’s wasn’t a one sided occupation force?

If memory serves me correctly and I’m sure it does as I grew up in the north typically those being knee capped where the drug dealers, rapists, thieves, hoods, addicts you know the people at the bottom of the ladder who made easy prey for the british to use to spy on the Nationalist/Republican community. In return for spying on us they were given a free pass to just keep on doing what they were doing.

If any group has a “notorious” history in Ireland it’s the english and their campaign of terror, thieft and murder over eight centuries. There’s little mention that the british during that time and in particular during the famine managed to kill and drive out more Irish than hitler did to the Jews. Lets not forgot how the feminine came to be so bad, it wasn’t that there wasn’t any food it was the english in the who had stolen the land, forced the people that should have owned it to work it as slaves basically and took the fruit of their forced labor back home to be enjoyed. What happened in the past 30 years pales in comparison to what the English have done to this nation, its people, culture and heritage during its occupation.
