We survived Carter. Britain survived Chamberlain. Granted, we're still cleaning up after our idiot (Iran...), and there was some kind of international situation in Europe that Mr. Chamberlain didn't handle very well in the 1930s, as I recall (American history education being what it is).
Have we got any Churchills in this country for afterward? Other than that defrocked professor in Colorado, I mean.
