Action at last?

Recently, there have been a number of attacks against Iranian nuclear and missile facilities and several of their top scientists have been assassinated.  From the look of these satellite photos, this doesn't seem like the work of a dissident group out to make a point.  It's more like someone is escalating the fight against the mad mullahs to something beyond introducing Stuxnet viruses at centrifuge plants.

Keep up the good work, whoever you are.

A history lesson

A UKPA headline:
UK ponders response to embassy raid
Ponders?  Here's an idea for anyone down the Foreign office, if they care to listen:  Take a page out of the old Soviet play book and tell the Iranians what Brezhnev told the Iranian ambassador after he was invited (i.e. frogmarched in his jammies between two large KGB agents) to a meeting at the Kremlin in 1979 after the American embassy fell (I paraphrase, but he wasn't kidding).  "Students? *&$%!  I know it was you and if our embassy is touched, I will vapourise Tehran."

Nobody touched it.

"Aid" is an ambiguous word

Iranian relief workers prepare to embark.

Iran says that they are sending a pair of "aid" ships to Gaza. According to Iranian Red Crescent director Abdolrauf Adibzadeh,
One ship will carry donations made by the people and the other will carry relief workers.
No doubt the former will be in the form of worn bank notes in small denominations and the latter will be made up mainly of fit young men between the ages of 18 and 25.

Tale of two presidents

Barry Rubin at Pajamasmedia:
Whatever you think of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he is not a stupid man. On the contrary, and shocking as you might find this idea, he is a better strategist than his American counterpart, Barack Obama.
That's not saying much. Wylie Coyote is a better strategist.

Quote of the day

A comment on the BBC website from someone who needs looking after:
Why shouldn’t Iran have nuclear capability? Israel, India, and many other countries which are no more stable than Iran have the capability. Another case of the USA trying to impose it’s homophobic prejudices on the rest of the world and, to my shame, with this country’s backing!
Um... Right.

Shielding Whom?

Mr Barack Hussein Obama deploys Patriot missile batteries to Gulf states and anti-missile ships to the Persian Gulf, though it turns out that it has less to do with protecting Iran's neighbours than it does protecting Iran against Israel.

It's that sort of logic that ends up with Poland being invaded.

Update: Iran's response? That it will "deliver a telling blow" on February the 11th.

Get your radiation suits out, lads; the strontium levels are going to spike.

Why am I not surprised?

I am shocked, shocked that Ahmadinejad reneged on the nuclear fuel deal.

So, how's that Peace Prize working out?

Brezhnev Ahmadinejad lied to me!

Maybe it's just moral leadership at work. Just remember, he may appear to be a dithering, inexperienced ideologue who's in way over his head, but he's really a man of steel coiled to strike.

I enjoy a good laugh, too.

Frank diplomacy

The mullahs of Iran may be turning streets red with the blood of protesters, but Heaven forefend that they be barred from the US embassy weenie roast because of it.

After all, they've never treated an American embassy with anything except the greatest respect, have they?

Speaking truth to power

The mullahs of Iran are singling out Britain as the agent working against them in the current election turmoil.

And, you know, I hope they're right.

Instead of The One's revolting pussyfooting in a singlular attempt to fawn over whoever comes out on top of this power struggle, we should nail our colours to the mast and declare that we stand four square for democracy for the Iranians, point out that the Coalition has over 200,000 men on Iran's doorsteps, and to Hell with whomever says nay.

Damned by the mullahs? I call that a compliment.

Voting present

Mr Barack Hussein Obama faces the first real test as leader of the free world over the rigged elections in Iran and, not surprisingly, goes into full Jimmy Carter mode.

Apparently, if supporting democracy doesn't fit in with mesmerising the world with his stirring personal narrative, then it doesn't really matter.

That unclenched fist thing worked out real well

I am shocked, shocked that Ahmadinejad rigged the election.

Update: We'll, be fair, he is the Iranian George Bush.

Update: The sound of silence. So much for Hope.

Nuclear knee-slapper

From The Telegraph:
Iran's main nuclear plant is expanding so rapidly that United Nations inspectors have asked Tehran for improved safeguards against the production of weapons-grade uranium.
Then they all wiped their eyes after enjoying their best laugh since The One's Cairo speech.

Sejjill-2

Iran tests a Sejjill-2 medium-range surface-to-surface missile.

Nothing to worry about here. Another call for unclenching of fists while negotiating away the missile defence system will take care of it.

Game Theory

From Arabian Business.com:
Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani said on Saturday that the United States should stop "boxing" with Iran and adopt itself to a game of "chess" with the Islamic republic.
I only partly agree. Abandon boxing; yes, but instead of chess, I suggest a quick round of roshambo (not the rock, paper, scissors version) with the United States getting first crack.

Hope & Change: Iranian Division

From The Los Angeles Times:
Little more than a year after U.S. spy agencies concluded that Iran had halted work on a nuclear weapon, the Obama administration has made it clear that it believes there is no question that Tehran is seeking the bomb.
But... But... I thought now that The One was president, it was supposed to be all hearts and flowers and coy glances across the conference table!

Ah, well. Maybe Barack Hussein Obama will realise that he's playing with the grown ups now.

National Security? Phffft!

The New York Times has uncovered a secret United States programme designed to sabotage Iran's efforts to build nuclear weapons.

Nice of the NYT to keep it to themselves and avoid putting the lives of millions of people in danger.

Oh, what...

Mullahs in Space!

Iran announces that it intends to put a man in orbit within ten years.

First the Chinese and now this. What is it about repressive tyrannies that makes them want to spend incredible amounts of money with no hope of return for the honour of retreading ground covered by the superpowers half a century ago?

Next up: Zimbabwe pledges to discover the New World.

1957 All Over Again

According to the Guardian, Iran's "peaceful" space programme is keeping pace with its "peaceful" nuclear programme. No doubt to be followed by a "peaceful" targeting programme and "peaceful" MIRV programme.

It's amazing how the Guardian's correspondent could spill so much ink on Tehran's ambitions to put a satellite into orbit without noting that the difference between an orbital booster and an ICBM is simply a matter of intent.

Iran Provokes

Iranian Revolutionary Guard boats made a probing action against U. S. Navy ships by buzzing to within firing range while radioing,
I am coming at you. You will explode in a couple of minutes.
Waiting to be told by the press that they were just trying to deliver goodwill fruit baskets in 5... 4... 3...
