The wilfully blind

The Washington Post is supremely puzzled by the following:
Yonathan Melaku was sneaking through Fort Myer and Arlington National Cemetery, his backpack filled with plastic bags of ammonium nitrate, a notebook containing jihadist messages, and a can of black spray paint. The 23-year-old former Marine was heading to the graves of the nation’s most recent heroes, aiming to desecrate the stones with Arabic statements and leave handfuls of explosive material nearby as a message.

Before police foiled the plan in June, the vandalism was to be Melaku’s sixth attack, months after he went on a mysterious shooting spree that targeted the Pentagon, the National Museum of the Marine Corps and two other military buildings in Northern Virginia. A video found after Melaku’s arrest showed him wearing a black mask and shooting a 9mm handgun out of his Acura’s passenger window as he drove along Interstate 95, shouting “Allahu Akbar!”
The headline for this story?
Motive of shooter who targeted military sites is unclear
That's right up there with "Germans invade Poland; motives unclear".

Germany has a touch of the vapours

Modern Germany
I've spoken a couple of times last week about the importance of not just defeating the Jihadists, but of handing them a humiliating defeat. Will this work?  I offer this example of what's possible.

The Dane-Geld

Clayton Cramer looks at the Dane-geld, so I figure that it's time for a reposting.

Dane-geld
Rudyard Kipling

It is always a temptation to an armed and agile nation,
To call upon a neighbour and to say:—
“We invaded you last night—we are quite prepared to fight,
Unless you pay us cash to go away.”

And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
And the people who ask it explain
That you’ve only to pay ’em the Dane-geld
And then you’ll get rid of the Dane!

It is always a temptation to a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say:—
“Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away.”

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But we’ve proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
For fear they should succumb and go astray,
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to say:—

“We never pay any-one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost;
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that plays it is lost!”

BBC surrender monkey test

James Delingpole looks at a new BBC documentary about a modern Britain at war where the enemy can shout propaganda in the high street, those who confront them get carted off by the police, and the BBC plays Dr Goebbels for them.

To coin a phrase, they're not anti-war, they're just on the other side.

Fitting the crime

A Muslim "student" in Spain takes his teacher to court for talking about ham.

Not only should the little oik's case be thrown out, but he should be required to sit through a detailed five-hour lecture on the process of curing Parma hams.

Not getting it

Hate the TSA body searches so much that you've given up flying?  According to Homeland Security Secretary Mrs Janet Napolitan, it won't do you any good.
I think the tighter we get on aviation, we have to also be thinking now about going on to mass transit or to trains or maritime. So, what do we need to be doing to strengthen our protections there?
It's at this point that I stock up on seeds and rely on shooting game for food.

Here's a crazy idea, Mrs Napolitan:  Instead of treating American citizens like maximum security inmates, what say that we drop the euphemisms about "terrorists' and call the enemy what they are: Jihadists.  Let's admit openly and without embarrassment that the United States and the rest of the civilised world is at war with a load of 7th century barbarians who want to kill and enslave us.  We know who they are, we know what they want, and we know how they're likely to go about getting it.  Instead of pretending that a 95-year old Pennsylvania Dutch nun is as likely to be a terrorist as the 25-year old Saudi guy clutching a Koran in one hand and a giant black ball with a fuse sticking out and BOMB written across it in letters eight inches tall, why don't we, oh, I don't know, profile suspects so we can pick out the likely Jihadists while running the odd spot checks to weed out any ringers?

And while we're at it, instead of turning the Free World into a giant gulag, let's do what we started ten years ago before we lost the thread.  Let's take the war to the enemy, kill lots of them, take out as many of the tyrants sponsoring them as we can, and tell the rest that if they don't want to end up doing the Saddam Hussein two-step they'd better behave.

In short, stop molesting kids and little old ladies with week bladders and start winning the war.

Comply with me

This is what happens when a government stops its ears, closes its eyes, and pretends that it has no idea who the enemy is–if it acknowledges that there is an enemy at all.

What does it take?

The trail of Roshonara Choudhry was already odd.  Having been found guilty of attempting to murder Mr Stephen Timms MP for supporting the 2003 invasion of Iraq, Miss Choudry was allowed to attend her sentencing via a video link because she refused to recognise the authority of the court.  Exactly why the judge did not demonstrate that authority by ordering her dragged before him in chains and forced to stand to hear the sentence remains unclear.

Subsequently, three men, whom one suspects are not Presbyterian, disrupted the proceedings by hurling abuse at the judge and a Muslim woman juror before being ejected from the court where they stood in the street screaming "British soldiers must die" and "Death to Timms".

Were they then arrested and charged with contempt of court, disorderly conduct, and incitement to murder?

You don't know modern Britain very well.

Spines of jelly

The MSM are forever acting as apologists for the Religion of Peace; implying over and over that terrorism is an orphan crime that Islam has nothing to do with and anyone who says otherwise is an "Islamophobe".  Then they reveal themselves to be hypocrites and cowards by quaking in fear at the thought of what the Faithful might do to them if crossed.  Case in point: American newspapers refuse to run a Mohammed cartoon.  And this one doesn't even have Mohammed in it.  If Islam is such a peaceful religion, then what are these editors afraid of?  Why don't they back their assertions and support freedom of the press by putting their necks on the line?  Oh, that's right; they'd be doing that literally.

Keep speaking truth to power, guys.

Koran burning is thoughtcrime

If they'd been burning a Bible they'd be okay.
Scream hatred in the streets and carry a sign saying "Behead those who insult Islam"? Receive complete protection from the police, who will even arrest counter protesters for you.

Burn a Koran? Get hauled off to jail so fast your feet don't touch the ground.

Welcome to modern Britain.

Five years on

The fruits of barbarism

It's the fifth anniversary of the 7/7 atrocity.

Given the number of attacks and near misses since then, that we have Jihadists that we can't deport living on benefits, an Afghanistan campaign in disarray, anti-terrorism laws still in place that inconvenience everyone except the Jihadists, a de facto and de juri invasion of Britain that continues unabated, another government that is reluctant to even name the enemy, and a general attitude of grovelling in front of the Faithful instead of standing up for moderate Muslims* and demanding concrete proof from the rest of why they should be trusted an inch, I'd say that we have a very long, hard road still ahead of us.

Meanwhile, to the victims of 7/7, our continued prayers.

*And by moderate I don't mean desiring a new caliphate in Britain, but are circumspect about it. I mean those who reject the goals as well as the methods of the Jihadists, swear allegiance to the Crown, recognise Britain as a Christian/secular state in which Sharia has no place, and intend to assimilate to British society rather than for that society to accommodate them.

When in Rome...

...Demand that your hosts support you and bend over to a ludicrous degree to indulge your every whim even if you crossed the border illegally. Don't forget to revile your hosts and threaten them with violence while you do so.

For real thrills, try it as a Westerner in a non-Western country. The results would be... interesting. It's one a situation where I have less of a gripe with the immigrants than with the supine governments that allowed it to happen--or, in the case of New Labour, encouraged it as an act of war against their own people.

Bus jihad

Planning to take your dog on the bus? You can try, but don't do it if one of the Faithful is aboard or you'll be walking.

I wonder if I can get Muslim supremacists ejected from the bus because they offend my sense of liberty. Silly me;of course not. No one is worried that I'll react by blowing it up.

A taste of things to come

What we'll be seeing a lot more of (and a lot worse) if the Jihadists aren't recognised for what they are.

Update:When in Rome, or Paris, or London, or New York, or Sydney, do as much as your cowardice permits. And do it a long way from any mosques, lest there be consequences.”

Fighting with both hands behind our back and blindfolded

After the 7/7 bombings, the government saw that war had come to Britain's shores, leapt into action, and tried to hush the whole thing up because doing something might (wait for it) upset the Muslims.

Meanwhile, a new poll shows that the British public, who have had to deal with everything up to and including mass murder at the hands of the more excitable of the Faithful, have a negative view of Islam and, of course, it's the British public's fault for not believing the blandishments of their masters rather than their lying eyes about the Religion of PeaceTM.

It's like faulting the Britons of 1940 for not being too keen on the Germans.

Update: Guess the trade off of all that "vibrancy" wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

Hard to fight an enemy you won't name

Tin ear award

In one of the more insane episodes in the Jihadist war, a community board in New York City has approved the construction of a mosque in the vicinity of Ground Zero.

After 9/11, they started talking about what should replace the fallen World Trade Center and I was often tempted to suggest a gigantic cathedral with a synagogue next to it because that would drive the Jihadists bonkers. I didn't do so, however, because I thought that would be in bad taste. And from me, that's saying something. Now we learn that this so-called board, in the name of "closer relations", approves the most abject example of dhimmitude since they whitewashed the Hagia Sophia.

God, we are in trouble.

Decadence defined

Though his conclusion is couched firmly behind a pair of rose-tinted glasses, Ross Douthat in the New York Times looks at the South Park censorship affair and comes up with a perfect definition of decadence:
This is what decadence looks like: a frantic coarseness that “bravely” trashes its own values and traditions, and then knuckles under swiftly to totalitarianism and brute force.
