Slidewalks of Paris

Edison Moving Sidewalk 1900 Paris
Uploaded by donaldtheduckie

Not exactly Heinlein's "rolling road," but for Paris in 1900 this is pretty impressive

Tip o' the hat to Paleo-Future.

  1. Ever the impressive Tommy Edison.

He came up with this sixty-two years before someone would demand that they "stop this crazy thing."

  2. I think the "Edison" bit is the cinematography, not the slidewalk itself.

I remember 'slidewalks' in the HG Wells novel "When the Sleeper Wakes".

Home video was predicted (is that the proper usage?) in that story, except audio and video were on seperate cylinders.

The book should be a free download from Project Gutenberg.
