Do people in the Northwest have an accent?Yes, and you can cut it with a knife. My wife, who is a native Washingtonian, thinks she's accentless and thinks I'm kidding when I tell her that she has a very thick one and I sometimes have trouble understanding her.

Here in the Midwest, we think it's just everyone else who has an accent, as well.
ReplyDeleteI drive my acquaintances up the wall because my diction and pronunciation are very close to RSE. Which I consider appropriate, because the "true" Southern Ohio accent is very close to West Country, largely due to where the original settlers in this area came from prior to the American Revolution.
And yes, we Buckeyes have serious problems understanding New Yorkers, Bostonians, and even West Virginians. And half of my family are from the latter area.
