Rules for submitting comments:

2. Stay on topic. A bit of straying and off-hand commenting is okay, but hijacking the discussion is right out.
3. No ad hominem attacks. Attack the subject, not the other person on the thread and keep the discussion civil.
4. No spamming or commercial endorsements. These get deleted immediately.
Tip: Beware of putting hyperlinks in your comments–especially at the end. For some reason, Blogger interprets these as spam.

I've encountered this in New England, but not in Minnesota. When I came out here, I was surprised at how many people tried to "place" me, and amused by the difficulties they encountered. Martial arts and shooting are low-class pursuits (apparently), while having read a few books and the tech job are higher-class indicators, though not sufficiently high-class to make my deficiencies into lovable eccentricities. Minnesota, I felt people doing this a lot less.
ReplyDeleteEventually, I think, the locals got to know me, and now I no longer need pigeonholing. So they've stopped. Or given up.
