Not quite



This makes me feel old. Youtube describes this as the "world's first mobile phone" when it's nothing of the kind.  It's just a portable wireless receiver for listening to bog-standard medium wave broadcasts.  God, it makes me tired having to explain this.

Nice umbrella antenna, though.

  1. It reminds me of nothing so much as the parasols with built-in lightning rods that were all the rage in Paris in the 1770s as a result of Franklin's experiments. Except without the trailing earth wire.

    Walking around in a storm with one of these up could have gotten the user more than a weather report.
