Logic free zone

(Picture Mr Bill McKibben lying on his back; screaming himself red in the face and kicking his heels)  "Global warming really, really causes tornadoes and other bad things.  It does!  It does! It does! And if you don't think so, you're just stupid and mean!"

  1. I'd explain to Mr. McKibben that in a warming cycle with the atmosphere approaching a poikilothermal regime', weather actually calms because of the lack of steep pressure/temperature gradients, and that cooling cycles cause violent weather to increase because of steep gradients of same- but there's no point.

    It would be like explaining to a Babylonian high priest that Mars is a solid body. As opposed to a god sending messages with its movements, to be interpreted by himself for the edification of the great unwashed.

    Like that priest, McKibben would see me as a heretic who threatened both his faith- and his position of power and influence. I'd be lucky not to be stoned to death. (And I don't mean with a bong.)

    There is no point in trying to talk sense to someone with none of their own. Especially if they have a dream of power on top of same.

    cheers

  2. Eon - That's great! I'm RotFL!

    Unfortunately, you are absolutely correct (humor has to have a basis in fact to really be funny). There are some people who will never allow themselves to see reality. All the rest of us can do is to speak (write) the truth to try to help others not to fall into the same narrow-minded crevasse. A crevasse with, strangely, a powerful suction, it seems.

  3. Wesley;

    Glad you enjoyed it. But I wasn't trying to be funny. ;-)

    Guys like McKibben aren't just in the crevasse- they're in the Abyss. And Nietzsche told us what that means.

    cheers

  4. Eon, Yes - "abyss" is the correct term. It is a deep, dark, dank place, whose denizens are unwilling, perhaps even unable, to leave.

    How to fight back against an indoctrination system that's so firmly established and so determined to bring others down to its mindless depths? And is so congenitally blinded it is unwilling to see itself for what it is?
