    Mach 1+ at ground level? Quite aside from the obvious compressibility-related problems for the train itself, that would certainly make living within five miles either side of its right-of-way interesting.

    Not going to be too popular when it hits a bend either! Not to mention the carnage at level crossings and stations it doesn't stop at!
