Whatever happened to that carrier holiday?

But.. But they promised!
From the Telegraph:
Arab uprising exposes Britain’s naval weakness
What?  You mean the Royal Navy might need to evacuate British nationals or show some firepower to influence events?  A pity we don't have any aircraft carriers!

Update: Solution:  Who needs a navy? Send charter planes!

  1. But, but, cruise ships! Cruise ships!

OK, they'll have to charter them from Princess Lines (assuming they can find some that aren't laid up with engineering casualties), but still...

Maybe they can borrow helos from the Egyptian AF to evac the tourists?

I suppose they could ask the U.S. for a couple of LHAs backed up by a CVAN group to do it- but then The One might start lecturing Davey-Boy on "appearing provocative" to our Islamic betters. And refuse the request anyway.

I think the moral is that one should never be a tourist in a country where you need an E&E plan as part of your tour package.

    cheers

  2. It gets better, the frigate diverted to Libya was on her way back to the UK to be scrapped!
