Power of Decision

The US Air Force's 1958 vision of an all-out nuclear confrontation with the Soviets.

  1. Being before the advent of ICBMs, the pace of this attack seems remarkably peaceful. The image of the narrator man with the two phones inspired a chuckle.

Also, what is there about the voice of Americans from the fifties and sixties that gives them that particular sound?

  2. I read somewhere the Russians knew there would
be no way to attack undetected.
They chose not to litter Canada with wrecked bombers.

  3. I haven't watched every reel in order yet, but I did skip ahead to #6.

    USA casualities: 60 million dead.
(This was before the firestorm effect was added to the estimated effectiveness of nuclear weapons.)

I'll try to get esitmated losses of USA aircraft.

    Less than 10%?!?
Recovery of crews downed in USSR?!?

Did aircrew actually expect to return to ANY base?
