Ray did it after Army service - when he was searching his way but didn't quite know what to do with his talent. At that time Television was starting to be popular, Ray saw the perspective in it; this short is a demonstration of the possibilities of how to use stop motion in tv commercials. This Lucky Strike short didn't seem to interest any tv producers, but a little while later Harryhausen noticed that someone had done a VERY SIMILAR ONE, obviously stealing his idea! (Can also be found somewhere in YouTube.) At that time he was thinking of whether or not he should take legal action, but finally decided not to sue anyone - which is a lucky thing! Imagine, what would have happened if he had stayed in the tv business! He would have made hundreds of commercials, making big money - leaving us fans WITHOUT Cylops, Trog, Ymir and Rhedo! :)
