Bob May (1939-2009)

Bob May, AKA Robot B9, has gone to that great launch pad in the sky.

Rest well, you cacophonous collection of cogs.

  1. Another sad passing to mark, this is getting too common.
That article was a nice tribute to May, I didn't know that part about how he would smoke in the suit and of course the smoke would appear to be coming out of the robot.
If I can get a VCR working I'll have to re-watch "Fantasy Worlds of Irwin Allen"; May not only is featured in it, but there are some stories about how he made the suit as believable as possible.
He had the ability to walk in it and make it look like it was rolling, and he could spin the upper part 180 degrees and walk backwards without missing a beat.
Along with Dick Tufeld's voice over, the robot will always be one of the icons of the 1960s.
Far too many who have created our best memories are passing by the wayside.
