Wally Schirra 1923 - 2007


Wally Schirra, one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts and commander of the Apollo 7 mission has died at the age of 84.

    It's too bad all the books about space exploration written before the 1960s are lost.

    I remember one distinctly.

    "The first astronaut is 17 years old now..."

    The authors couldn't know the first American astronauts used to be a Korean War jet pilots.

    In a few hundred years, just as in one of the radio plays on David's MP3 CD, the colony worlds will bear the names of men who had "The Right Stuff".

    The recently discovered class M planet should be named "Claire".
