Arctic Enigma

Fifty million years ago the Arctic Ocean was a slightly brackish, subtropical sea covered with floating mats of ferns with a surface temperature of 73F (23C) .

As neither industrial man nor Al Gore were present at that time, how this state of affairs came or went remains a matter of deepest mystery.
