When I came out here, I was surprised at how many people tried to "place" me, and amused by the difficulties they encountered. Martial arts and shooting are low-class pursuits (apparently), while having read a few books and the tech job are higher-class indicators, though not sufficiently high-class to make my deficiencies into lovable eccentricities. Minnesota, I felt people doing this a lot less.<br /><br />Eventually, I think, the locals got to know me, and now I no longer need pigeonholing. So they've stopped.
