Hannan on Iceland

There goes Daniel Hannan MEP talking sense again.

  1. Icelanders know an attempted shakedown when they see it. It's just that simple.

Not to be invidious, but I'm reminded of the way they invited first British, and then U.S. forces in to help them secure their island against the "blandishments" of the crowd in Berlin in 1939-41. There again, they knew a "deal" in which they'd get the grotty end of the stick (in a very sensitive spot) when they saw it. Ditto turning down Soviet appeals for them to pursue "active neutrality" during the Cold War.

Icelanders know what a con game looks like. And they don't fall for it.

    cheers
