Plastic feathers

The American Chemical Society suggests manufacturing plastic out of chicken feathers.

Now they're just making it up.

  1. Why not? The feathers are mostly keratin - a protein known of its toughness - and proteins are the polyamides of nature.

I could see no hurdle why chicken feathers could not be turned into durable polyamide plastic. After all, it isn't the substance per se, but the molecules which form the substance.

  2. And considering the sheer number of battery chickens that are reared, it seems like it could possibly be a good starter.
