The cracks widen

Right on schedule.
Open borders?  What open borders?

Update: Link repaired

  1. Now that the link is fixed (thanks, David! ;-)), I'll say that the idea of a "United Europa" has never been anything but the dream of a few intellectual types who think they can make a Utopia if everybody else is compelled to shut up and do as they tell them.

Unfortunately, history isn't on their side, as Metternich & Co. found out in the 19th Century. Anymore than it has been on the side of the various more homicidal Utopians who have repeatedly turned Europe into a battleground going back to the Romans. (I'm thinking specifically of the 1848 crowd, the Paris Commune, the Marxists, Nazis, and more recently all the leftists with guns, bombs, and grudges of the 1970s.)

Add in an influx of Islamists who create "no-go areas" in France while dreaming of a Caliphate, and the end result is the same as it has always been. Namely, everybody in Europe realizing they have to look out for themselves. Because their "intellectual" leaders are too busy dreaming of how they're going to "chastise" everybody else for not singing when told to.

Say goodnight, Brussels. You are about to be smacked upside the head by reality. Hopefully, the next group of would-be "social reformers" and "Eurounionists" will be somewhat more in touch with the real world.

Or better yet, will stick to building castles in the air in faculty lounges, where their delusions don't matter so much.

    cheers
