Going, going...

Gerry Anderson announces in a BBC interview that he is officially reviving Thunderbirds.

I should be thrilled, but after what I have seen happen with so many reboots in recent years, I think I'll settle for pulling out my DVD collection, thank you.

  1. I saw the movie (directed by Jonathan "Cmdr. Riker" Frakes). On DVD.

Afterward, I needed an Alka-Seltzer. About two, in fact.

I've studiously avoided the "reimagined" CGI Captain Scarlet for the same reason.

Some people just never learn to quit while they're ahead.

  2. Aw, I kind of liked the "Two-Takes Frakes" version. Tell me your heart didn't swell just a little when the fully-realized CGI TB2 comes into view with the Thunderbirds theme pumping.

  3. What, shall we see a real Thunderbird II ?

I loved that series when I was a child and I love it still.

  4. Is there going to be a Jarjar character? I never even watched Thunderbirds, and the thought makes me cringe.

Joe Campbell never mentioned anything about the Archetype of the Jarjar, but it would appear that it nevertheless exists.

  6. Will it be dark and gritty and edgy and ironic? Oy...

  7. Bryan;

Actually, I was too busy calculating the base drag due to its overly-bulbous fuselage. My first reaction to TB2 was, "My G-d, they made it even worse!"

TB1, by comparison, wasn't half bad. At least it had more "good" camera angles than three-quarter front, right or left, the only angles the original looked OK from, according to Derek Meddings Sr. in an old issue of S.I.G. Magazine.

    Yes, I'm a geek.

    ;-)

    cheers

  8. Well, if it's a Gerry Anderson-led project then we should hope for something that's quite close to the original, or at least more in line with the creator's vision.

(Of course, that isn't always a guarantee of greatness - see George Lucas and any of the prequel Star Wars films for evidence. Or, better yet, don't.)
