Past and future

Today is the 1,600th anniversary of the sack of Rome by the Visigoths.

Historic event or preview of what we have in store if we don't admit that civilisation is a good thing and start defending it?

  1. I like that artist. Actually, I like that style. Where could I find a gallery of paintings by people like Sylvestre?

  2. Good question. I think the National Gallery has a few of his pieces, but I wouldn't swear to it.

  3. I was going to say "There aren't any barbarians to sack us" then I rebembered what Bierce said: "American is the only nation in the world to go from savagery to barbarism without the intervening stage of civilization."

We will crowd out your businesses with discount stores! We will flood your bars with light beer! We will make you use the word "soccer!"
