Planet Earth
Never one to give up easy, Roddenberry tries to salvage his Genesis II idea.
Unsuccessfully... In both senses.

Mmmm, nice! Sort of Planet of the Apes meets Mad Max meets Al Gore's fantasies about the end of the world meets Helen Reddy, all tied up with Lurch speaking in tongues as a sort of cherry on top (I guess in this one, it's Lurch that is Kiroc)! Bonus points for trying to make a Ford station wagon with a water heater in the back into a Thing-o-Menace! Epically mockable in a Joel-and-the-Bots sort of way!
ReplyDeleteThis sort of thing is exactly why I always liked Irwin Allen over Roddenberry. Gene liked to preach, Irwin just threw atom bombs.
ReplyDeleteContrast this with last week's entry "City Beneath the Sea", an industrious private operation surrounded by nuclear missiles, jumpsuits, and bad haircuts.
Much more to my liking than the dippy utopia with bad haircuts and jumpsuits in this thing.
But it did have John Saxon going for it, an alum of the school of "oh, such a headache I have" style of acting. Other members of that club include Jan Michael Vincent and Stuart Whitman.
Overall this looked like a crappy 1970s ABC Saturday morning cartoon come to life. Wait a minute, that's what it was!
Oh and Sergej, that's pretty funny, you were thinking Helen Reddy, I thought Toni Tennille!
Gad, we're old!!!
