  1. I've certainly felt that same despair when shopping for Legos for my kid. No longer is there just a big box o'bricks to be had, but some pre-engineered model of something.
    Very sad.
    I understand it from Legos' standpoint; sell a model, it gets put on a shelf, and another must be purchased.
    I encourage my son to knock them all apart and see what he can make from all the smaller bits.

    Don't despair with lego just yet. A lot of people still manage to create some, frankly, awesome creations with lego:

    True, it's all big robots; but what's wrong with that, exactly? Check out Soren Roberts in the "builders" section; he's my fave, with some fantastic designs (clean, elegant, filled with lots of things that shoot other things)
