Smoking is Doubleplus Ungood


Having crushed all crime and raised the chocoration to 20 grammes, the Thoughtpolice are now going undercover to make sure no one is disobeying Party orders smoking.

    Oh, come on! Big Brother didn’t even ban smoking!

    From Part 1, Chapter 5 of "1984":

    "He had lugged out a huge and filthy pipe which was already half full of charred tobacco. With the tobacco ration at 100 grammes a week it was seldom possible to fill a pipe to the top. Winston was smoking a Victory Cigarette which he held carefully horizontal."
